Zen and the Bridge Table

I made simple blunders at the bridge table yesterday – blunders that I knew not to make and as usual could not figure out why. This morning brought more clarity – the answer is Zen. There was no Zen for me yesterday since I was too caught up in the left-brain quantitative bidding process, which is far removed from the right-brain intuitive bidding. There was no watching each card, each play while blocking out the other players. I was not lost in the cards. Bridge has brought a curious tug of war between the creative self and the thinking self. Thinking, doing bridge is hard for me – being bridge, being the cards fits me better.
